This Episode we review one of the coolest $10 or so items you can buy for a studio, plus a short “The Other 7 Days” segment showing behind the scenes recording two awesome Bass Players at Ronan’s Veneto West Studio: Bob Glaub (CSNY, Dylan, The Doors, Rod Stewart, Bruce Springsteen..) and Davey Faragher (Cracker, Elvis Costello and the Imposters, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow)

How much is Steven Seagull paying you?
April 24th, 2009 at 1:36 am
Zero. That would be awesome if he did pay me. I just thought it kicked so much ass that I found a Steven Seagal energy drink at the discount store, that I wanted to put it in the show. That’s the fun thing about having my own show. And how else would I have found an excuse to use my new found ability to add cheesy explosions to a show about a drink holder?
We bought a couple cans of it for the client fridge at the studio and no has dared to drink it in 3 months. I had to put it to good use.

Awesome invention! I just checked out the website and they have cool looking chrome ones too.

WOW………you mean to tell me cans of Steven Seagal’s sports drink ACTUALLY emit bursts of flame and smoke – just like the real Steven Seagal does in real life! Amazing!

Awesome Review Ronan! I, too, loved my SwirlyGig around the vocal mic, as not only did it fit my water bottles, but even better–it fit all of my “pimp” cups, too. So, SwrirlyGig, there you are have it–you’re good for Steven Seagal’s energey drink and Kathleen Blackwell’s Pimped Out Cups. The challenge is on–whatcha gonna hold next–SwirlyGig?

Hey Ronan,
This my 2nd episode since signing on–really enjoying what you do–love the $10 gadget section!!! A must have for every studio.
I’m glad you checked the Lachappell cause I really want to get into the 500 series gear for vocals. Though I did just get a Pacifica and I’m loving it.
Do you have in the works, by chance, upcoming videos experimenting with different signal path combos in the 500 series stuff? Say lachappell into an api 550b into a komit compressor or something like that.
Look forward to the next episode!!!

Thanks for the cool vids RCM. Have been enjoying them very much!
Show Idea Suggestion: A segment on dynamics? Strictly outboard good stuff like the LA2A, 1176 etc?
May 18th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
Thanks for the idea. I have been getting lots of requests to do shows about compression and dynamics and I am trying to figure out what I can do that would be good. At my Home Recording Boot Camps, we spend half a day talking about compression and I feel like I am barely scratching the surface.

Hey Ronan, speaking of inexpensive stuff, could you do a review of a decent mic pre for under $200?

Nice!
I would pick up a Steven Seagal exploding energy drink just to have around too!
I picked up an Ozzy bobble head that doubles as an ink pen to have around the studio for the exact same reason.
The best unintentional comedy is usually available at 7/11 or the 99 cents store.

After cleaning up a couple of bottles of spilled Schlitz that we’re kicked on the floor from last night and having a new singer I’m jamming with ask me if she could put her bottle atop my Polymoog (no way please), I’m going to order a couple of these suckers fast!

As long as this video has been posted, no one noticed that the last shot is of the energy drink sitting on the console?
April 30th, 2010 at 10:39 pm
funny catch David, but I can assure you that the can was not open. I would NEVER put an open drink on a console!
